Sr. Robotics Manager, Robotics Delivery & Packaging Innovation, Design & Deployment

Sr. Robotics Manager, Robotics Delivery & Packaging Innovation, Design & Deployment Amazon UK Services Ltd. - A10 London, England, GBR

Reinvent how the world's largest robotics network gets deployed. Amazon is seeking a Senior Manager for our Robotics Delivery, Packaging & Innovation to define and lead the Design for Deployment (DfD) technical deep-dive, and associated implementation strategy, across our global robotics fulfillment network. This is a founding, build-it-from-scratch role: you will define what "deployable" means for every robotics technology Amazon ships, and your decisions will shape how thousands of implementations happen across six continents.

Amazon's culture encourages an entrepreneurial approach and expects engineers and managers alike to take a high level of ownership in solving complex problems in a fast-paced environment.

The role could be based in Vercelli or alternatively in London or Luxembourg with ~60% travel across Europe and internationally for design reviews and field validation activities.

Key job responsibilities

  • Serve as the organization's DfD technical authority, overview engineering drawings, mechatronic designs, and controls architectures, to embed quantified deployment requirements into engineering design, providing a single consolidated deployment voice and force multiplying deployment teams across multiple technology programs.
  • Drive technically complex DfD programs: determining feasibility of infrastructure builds at scale, identifying when deployment issues stem from technical design decisions, and driving engineering to design to a defined deployment bar (mechanical, electrical, controls, layout, system integration and mechatronic domains).
  • Advise VPs and the broader Robotics leadership on strategy, governance mechanisms and trade-offs, drive clarity where the problem itself may be undefined, optimize cross-organizational structures that enable teams to deliver independently.
  • Coach deployment teams to engage in engineering design reviews, design decisions, and feed field learnings back to product teams systematically. You'll mentor deployment engineers and TiPMs, sharing DfD best practices and technical deep-dive methods and helping managers guide career growth.
  • Define and own the end-to-end DfD strategy across all technology programs, ensuring every program has a quantified deployment bar (installation duration, workforce management, safety risk, cost per unit install).
  • Force multiply deployment teams by creating, optimizing, and driving adoption of DfD mechanisms that enable teams to operate independently and at scale.
  • Decompose complex deployment design problems into straightforward infrastructure solutions; define DfD Core Tenets and quantified requirements that engineering designs to across all solutions.
  • Establish and evangelize the principle that deployment data is influence currency: creating systems and expectations for teams to document and quantify deployment pain caused by design decisions, replacing anecdotal feedback with systematic, data-driven design influence.
  • Remediate critical and/or endemic deployment design problems; make trade-offs between business opportunity, resources, and sustainability with a long-term perspective.
  • Identify endemic deployment problems, such as recurring modularity constraints, cable management challenges, or commissioning inefficiencies, diagnosing them and drive engineering to eliminate them at the source rather than compensating in the field.
  • Drive measurable DfD outcomes and metrics, such as reduction in deployment duration, cost per unit, first-time installation success rate.

A day in the life

  • You'll operate with complete independence in an area where business and infrastructure build strategy may not yet be defined.
  • You will spend real time on the floor, next to the machines and the teams installing them, which is exactly where this role earns its credibility and its impact.
  • You'll partner with other Robotics teams to validate design improvements and quantify realized savings against targets.
  • You'll drive the cultural shift across the organization: coaching teams to stop absorbing complexity and start preventing it, building confidence in deployment engineers to challenge design decisions with data, and establishing new norms where field intelligence flows systematically back to product teams.
