Duties and responsibilities related to the Shift Engineer role
  • Deliver a courteous, professional and responsive service to guests and colleagues at all times.

  • Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPMs) and reactive maintenance across the hotel.

  • Complete basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting and general building repairs.

  • Diagnose faults, carry out repairs where possible and report any major issues to the Engineering Manager.

  • Monitor and maintain fire, life safety and building systems, responding to emergencies when required.

  • Complete maintenance requests promptly, ensuring effective communication and handover between shifts.

  • Record daily utility meter readings and support energy conservation initiatives.

  • Maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment, using tools and equipment safely.

  • Monitor engineering stock levels and request parts and consumables when required.

  • Work collaboratively with the Engineering team and other departments to support the smooth operation of the hotel and deliver an exceptional guest experience.

About you

We are looking for a hands-on and dependable Shift Engineer who takes pride in maintaining a safe, efficient and well-presented hotel environment. You'll have previous experience in a maintenance or engineering role, ideally within a hotel, hospitality or similar customer-focused environment, along with a good working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical and general building maintenance.

You'll be proactive, organised and confident working independently during your shift, while also being a strong team player who enjoys supporting colleagues across the hotel. You'll have excellent problem-solving skills, a keen eye for detail and the ability to prioritise workloads in a fast-paced environment. Above all, you'll be committed to delivering exceptional service, ensuring every maintenance task contributes to an outstanding guest experience.
