General Operative – Yard and Plant

Location: Walsall
Pay: Starting at National Minimum Wage
Hours: 12-hour shifts, including mornings, afternoons and nights
Overtime: Enhanced rate after 8.5 hours
Training and progression available

We are recruiting General Operatives to work within the yard and plant areas of a large industrial company based in Walsall.

This is a physically demanding role involving heavy manual work. Applicants must be comfortable working outdoors and within a busy industrial environment.

No previous plant experience is required, as full training will be provided. However, candidates must be reliable, hardworking and fully flexible across morning, afternoon and night shifts.

Duties will include:

  • Carrying out general yard and plant duties
  • Handling and moving heavy materials
  • Supporting production and site operations
  • Keeping work areas clean and safe
  • Following instructions and site safety procedures
  • Working effectively as part of the plant team

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be physically fit and comfortable completing heavy manual work
  • Be flexible across morning, afternoon and night shifts
  • Be willing to work 12-hour shifts
  • Have a strong attitude toward health and safety
  • Be reliable, punctual and willing to learn
  • Be comfortable working in an industrial yard and plant environment

Training and career progression

This is an entry-level opportunity with genuine progression available. After approximately 6 to 12 months, suitable employees may be offered funded training and qualifications in areas such as:

  • Overhead crane operation
  • Forklift truck operation
  • Plant and machinery operation
