Emergency Duty Team Manager

Brent Council is seeking a strong and compassionate Emergency Duty Team Manager to lead our Out of Hours Service across care groups including Children and Young People, Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Adult Social Care.

As part of our transformation journey, we are seeking a strong and compassionate Emergency Duty Team Manager to lead our Out of Hours Service covering all care groups including Children and Young People, Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Adult Social Care.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and supervise a dedicated Emergency Duty Team delivering safe, responsive out-of-hours services
  • Provide first on-call response to EDT workers on a rota basis (weekday evenings and alternate weekends)
  • Ensure statutory duties are delivered under the Care Act 2014, Children Act 1989, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended 2007)
  • Oversee quality assurance, case recording and decision-making processes to maintain consistent, safe practice
  • Lead AMHP recruitment, retention, training and re-warranting, ensuring compliance and development across the workforce
  • Chair AMHP forums and coordinate mandatory training
  • Manage budgets effectively and ensure efficient use of resources
  • Strengthen partnerships with internal teams, NHS colleagues, the voluntary sector, the police and courts
  • Drive policy development and continuous improvement across Adult Social Care

We’re looking for someone with

  • Social Work England registration and Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) status
  • Experience in out-of-hours social work practice
  • Strong leadership and supervision skills, with a track record of managing and developing high-performing teams
  • Deep knowledge of social care law, statutory duties and the Mental Health Act Code of Practice
  • Excellent partnership working and communication skills
  • The resilience and judgement to make confident decisions in urgent and complex situations
