Digital Video Producer - overnight (6 months FTC/secondment)

We’re looking for an overnight Digital Video Producer who will relish being on the frontline in a world class newsroom. You will be responsible for delivering fast, accurate video to our digital platforms covering breaking news and premium content, making sure the audience wakes up to fresh content. You will come with a proven track record of producing, editing and publishing videos. The ideal candidate will have exceptional news judgement with bags of initiative, and be able to work fast to tight deadlines. The role requires an understanding of media law and a recognised qualification in journalism.

What you’ll do:

  • Produce and Edit Video Content: Using software such as Rio, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, Avid or Quantel, create, edit, and publish videos for digital platforms, ensuring fast and accurate delivery of breaking news and premium content.
  • Identify and Pitch Stories/Creative Treatments: Have ideas around creative treatments we could use for our premium story-telling and angles for stories we’re not covering.
  • Ensure Compliance with Media Law: Apply comprehensive knowledge of media law (OFCOM, copyright, defamation etc) to all video content produced, ensuring legal compliance.
  • Collaborate with Newsroom Team: Work closely with the newsroom team to stay on the frontline of news production, leveraging exceptional news judgment and journalistic skills.


Essential criteria:

  • Proven Experience in Video Production: Demonstrated track record in producing, editing, and publishing videos, particularly for digital platforms. Experience in delivering fast and accurate video content for breaking news and premium content is essential.
  • Exceptional News Judgment: Passion and understanding for UK and global news, backed by the ability to identify and pitch viral and trending stories. Strong understanding of how to source and clear material for video production.
  • Understanding of Media Law: Comprehensive knowledge of media law to ensure compliance in all video content produced.
  • Recognised Journalism Qualification: Possession of a recognised qualification in journalism, indicating a solid foundation in journalistic principles and practices.
