About the role

As a Business Analyst, you will play a vital role in enabling change across the organisation by providing clarity, structure, and actionable insights to solve complex business problems. By collaborating with stakeholders, analysing business needs, and designing efficient processes, you will help bridge the gap between customer aspirations and operational realities. Your work will directly influence decision-making, ensuring solutions deliver meaningful value for both customers and the organisation. The key purpose of this role is to understand the business problem and the solution options that will enable the objectives of a change programme to be achieved. The role holder will be responsible for facilitating all elements of business design including discovery, scoping, options analysis, requirements definition, business process design, and capability maturity analysis and operating model design. The role holder will be accountable for assuring delivery against requirements to the quality and level required that will drive the right business outcomes and ensure realisation of the Business Strategy.

What you’ll be doing

Leads discovery, scoping and options analysis to clearly define business problems, customer needs and value opportunities for change. Translates insights into clear, structured requirements (business, functional, non-functional, data), epics, features and user stories that enable effective delivery across squads.

Designs end-to-end business processes, journeys and capabilities that align with customer objectives, BT standards and operational feasibility, including unhappy path and edge-case analysis.

Works across business, product, engineering and service design teams to assess solution feasibility, align priorities, and support evidence-based decision-making.

Produces high-quality analysis artefacts including process maps, capability maturity assessments, data requirements and options papers, maintaining traceability to business outcomes.

Supports the definition of MVPs/MMPs, phasing and road mapping to enable incremental delivery and maximise customer and business value.

Ensures requirements and designs meet standards and contributes to quality assurance of BA outputs within the function.

Acts as an expert practitioner and mentor for Business Analyst Professionals, providing coaching, quality assurance and thought leadership to strengthen capability across the function.

Influences stakeholders at all levels, including senior leaders, to align priorities, resolve competing needs and enable informed decision-making.

Contributes to the continuous improvement of ways of working, reusable patterns, tools and frameworks to drive consistency and efficiency.

Essential Skills / Experience

  1. Business Analysis Expertise
Demonstratable Business Analysis experience of leading analysis across large-scale transformation initiatives. Proficiency in structured approaches to identify, investigate, analyse, and communicate business problems and opportunities.

Ability to conduct feasibility assessments, options analysis, and business case development.

Skilled in synthesizing and presenting insights in a clear, actionable, and accessible manner to senior stakeholders.

Security Clearance - Due to the nature of the work, you may be asked to gain and maintain the appropriate UK Government security clearance (SC).

  1. Data and Reporting
Strong understanding of data, analytics and emerging AI-enabled analysis techniques, including defining data requirements and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver actionable insights and reporting solutions. Familiarity with data models, KPIs, and tools to ensure insights are embedded in operational and strategic decision-making.
  1. Process Design and Improvement
Strong capability in designing, analysing, and optimising business processes to improve operational efficiency and customer outcomes. Experience leading unhappy path and failure mode analyses to ensure robust and reliable solutions.
  1. Requirements Management
Proven ability to define, prioritise, and manage complex requirements, including functional, non-functional, and data requirements through their lifecycle. Experience in breaking down large scopes into logical phases, epics, and features to enable incremental delivery.
  1. Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships and mediate across diverse stakeholders. Ability to facilitate collaboration, align conflicting priorities, and maintain focus on customer and business needs.
  1. Agile and Lean Practices
Understanding of Agile methodologies and ability to work effectively in iterative delivery environments. Skilled in enabling teams to prioritise work and deliver MVPs and MMPs at pace.
  1. Analytical and Strategic Thinking
Strong analytical skills to assess business needs, synthesise complex data, and provide evidence-based recommendations. Ability to balance customer aspirations with operational realities to deliver practical, scalable solutions.
  1. Tools and Methods
Experience with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and other collaboration platforms to manage workstreams effectively. Experience with relevant business analysis tools and techniques, including process mapping, capability maturity modelling, and FMEAs.

Ability to select and apply the right tools and methods to fit the scope and context of a project.
